Sewage: To treat or not to treat

Okay, first this is going to be my opinion, nothing else. I did not base this on facts, but rather on what I think is the right thing to do. Also, if you’ve been reading this blog over the last couple of weeks, you will know that this is not the place to find lengthy discourses. 🙂

There is going to be a by-election in one of the federal ridings in Victoria before the end of the month and one of the candidates is making the new sewage treatment plant the central issue of his campaign. What his stand is is not really important, but this is the reason why I am blogging about it tonight.

Personally, I think that dumping raw sewage in the ocean and expecting the ocean to “treat” it for us is pretty much the same as dumping your garbage on the ground since it is biodegradable. And since we have the know-how, it seems unreasonable to not use that knowledge to treat the sewage instead of dumping it. Besides, I seem to remember that the residue remaining can be used as fertilizer, so it’s not like it would go to waste (pun intended).

Do you have an opinion on the matter that you would care to share?

About cthibodeau

I am a baby-boomer who is now in his second career after spending 10 years in the military. I now work in the computer field, which also happens to be one of my hobbies. I also like to sing, play the guitar to accompany my singing, and play the piano when I practice (which is pretty much never these days)
