Change window

Well the change window this week was almost completely successful. We did manage to install all the patches as was planned. The new Host Bus Adaptor (HBA) was also installed, but the existing HBA had to be moved as the new HBA had to use that slot. That model of Sun server (V880) only has 2 high speed slots (66 Mhz PCI) and they were both in use already.

Having to move the existing HBA meant that all of the tape drives we were accessing through it had their device names changed. And that meant that the tape drive information in our backup program had to be modified so they could be accessed at their new locations.

That did cause us to not be able to attach the new disk to the system as the time left in the change window had to be dedicated to the changes to the tape drives. That part of the work will have to be done at a later date.

Good night!

About cthibodeau

I am a baby-boomer who is now in his second career after spending 10 years in the military. I now work in the computer field, which also happens to be one of my hobbies. I also like to sing, play the guitar to accompany my singing, and play the piano when I practice (which is pretty much never these days)
